This concert contains two works which will aways be associated with Rostropovich: the ever popular and romantic cello concerto by Dvorak and the melancholy and dramatic Symphony no. 6 "Pathetique" by Tchaikovsky. The conductor for this concert is Domonic Wheeler and the soloist Thomas Carroll. Thomas Carroll is one of the UK's most outstanding young cellists and the winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions in 2001 and the Barenreiter prize for strings.

This programme contains two of John Williams' best known film scores: "Harry Potter" and "The Cowboys". It also has a strong American connection with the overture Candide by Bernstein, and the piano concerto by Gershwin. Malcolm Goldring (the ever popular conductor of the Guernsey Choral Workshop) returns to direct this concert with the winner of the first Taiwan International Piano competition Chiao-Ying Chang as soloist.
